Oliver Kadouchkine (Kadooshkin) is a mixed media visual artist working across the domains of illustration, paper collage, digital art, and 3-D animation.
Starting from a background in cartoon illustration, his embrace of chance procedure techniques (breaking open biros, smearing ink, using sello-tape to rip lines of poetry from notebooks) has produced augmented, heavily textured caricatures of friends, strangers, & figures from popular culture.
These characters are nested in dense collages constructed from original source material, created & recycled in a flurry of semi-conscious activity, and then slowly refined in digital space through selective inversion & colour editing.
The most recent advances have involved the deconstruction of these works into transparent layers, which are then manipulated via a combination of Blender & stop-motion animation.
His interests lie in short stories, haikus & world-building, drawing on a love of obscure historical & literary references. The work attempts to borrow & update the 'hieroglyphic' representations of cartoon character's mental states, representing the transcendent or inexplicable bursting from skulls or manifested in the environment.
He also works as gigging musician & producer, active in the Bristol post-rock/avant-jazz scenes.
